Constellations of Grief is created through an innovative cross border partnership between LOD muziektheater (Belgium), Manchester Camerata (UK) and Sheffield University (UK). Developed via an extensive research, and through community workshops, it places the requiem in conversation with other musical traditions of mourning and commemoration from diverse cultural perspectives (elegy, dirge, funeral hymn, litany, threnody, lament, funeral march, night vigil, «after tears» gathering etc) to create a new musical language that engages life and death’s entanglement and celebrates love’s continuity after death; the ache of loss, and its twin face of love, and each an equal and inseparable part of aliveness.
