On the business of hope
Welcome to my blog!
I love the idea that a blog is both self-indulgent, cathartic and may or may not help others existing in a similar space feel less alone.
So why call my blog - the business of hope? Because making change, advocating for a better access to the arts, ensuring everyone gets to enjoy culture as a human right means failing, getting up and trying again and so on... Without real hope for a better horizon, why bother even beginning the journey. So I will continue to advocate furiously for a business of hope. I personally started using this phrase when I realised that an abundance of positivity was required for a career within inclusion/change-making/advocacy/EDI/DEI/EDJI/EDIB. When I began my journey into inclusion as a Delivery Lead for Tonic, I was quickly trained up to deliver training online on unconscious bias; that, after all, was the need of the sector in the winter of 2020.
Full of energy and new found knowledge (specifically pertaining to the biases within our beautiful human brains), I delivered these sessions with relish wholeheartedly expecting everyone to be as excited by these new found facts as I was. Quickly, the sheen wore off.
I realised that the change-making dial moved slowly and in the end amounted to fellow business of hope believers to drive agendas forward and collectivism in organisational committment to change.
My plan is to keep this blog of musings not only as a measure of passing time in this sector (I’ll include previous blogs) but as a way of keeping the faith. Keep up the work folks - you are absolutely smashing it!
